Update (September 2024):
Newly released search warrant documents reveal that Cleveland County investigators now believe Asha Degree was killed. Law enforcement executed multiple search warrants in Shelby, Vale, and Charlotte, focusing on properties owned by the Dedmon family. DNA evidence found on Degree’s belongings links her case to AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez and Russell Underhill. While no human remains were found, authorities now suspect Asha’s death involved members of the Dedmon family, including possible adult assistance in concealing her body.
Asha was last seen walking along Highway 18 early on February 14, 2000. Her backpack was found over a year later, 30 miles from her last known location. Investigators are treating the case as a homicide and continue to search for answers.
